Kansas City Missouri is today's destination and the first stop is right in the middle of downtown on this 1922 Curt Teich postcard. This is Walnut Street looking North from Tenth Street which is one of the principal business thoroughfares of Kansas City. The printed information on the back says "This one block contains eleven banks. Kansas City ranks fourth in bank clearings." They also seem to have a traffic problem since I counted eight streetcars or trolleys and I don't think you could get another automobile on this stretch of road. On the left is National City Bank and in the right foreground is a sign for "De Looze Hat". You should always check street scenes for business names, pool halls, saloons or any other unique or unusual business because that can add value to the post card.
Moving from business to fun, the next postcard is also a Curt Teich production from 1909 and shows the Music Pavilion, Electric Tower and Chutes in Electric Park, "Kansas City's Coney Island". The Labor Day message on the back gives some interesting information about the park as the sender tries to convince her friend in Newbern Tennessee to visit and enjoy the park. She says "The parks are still open. Carnival closes tomorrow and Electric runs about a week longer. Wish you could be here to go to the Corn Carnival at Electric. Today is Labor Day & there is amusement galore. Ringling Brothers Circus, all the Parks & Theater. You are missing a whole lot." Nothing like rubbing it in. Postcards of amusement parks are very popular so be sure to look for them and the more rides showing, the better. Both of these postcards are available in my Missouri listings along with 10,000 additional postcards on my website Moody's Postcards.
