Schools are a very popular subject on old postcards because towns wanted to show off their public education facilities. Our first example is a 1904 view of the Michigan Industrial School for Boys in Lansing Michigan and yes, there were Industrial Schools for Girls too. The students are lined up in front of the school and all are in the school uniform.
Our second school post card is a 1906 view of the Michigan State Normal School in Ypsilanti Michigan. Before I started collecting postcards, I had not heard of "normal" schools but soon found out that they were schools for teachers which were in high demand due to the rush to build public schools in every town. This particular post card was printed by the Rotograph Company in Germany which produced very high quality cards. Both of these postcards can be found in my Michigan listings along with an additional 10,000 post cards on my website Moody's Postcards.
CATCH POSTCARD FEVER!! The educational hobby.
